I vowed to make my minutiae more interesting by making my life more interesting.

Minutiae intrigued me the moment I read about it. The "anti-social" social media app? Yes, please, sign me up for that. After the first several months, though, I noticed a disturbing trend. My life was monotonous. I work from home five days a week. I'm divorced. My kids are grown and gone. It's me and my dog.

My days blurred together. Every moment looked like just another Tuesday. I had a predictable routine: home, gym, church, occasional social event, travel to see one of my kids. Rinse and repeat. The other users I matched with from all over the world were usually full of more life - family, co-workers, interesting workplaces, varied outdoor spaces, travel, cooking, socializing, and hobbies. It hit me like a truck that I was sleepwalking through my days.

I vowed to make my Minutiae more interesting by making my life more interesting.

And I did. I can't say I now lead a glamorous life of travel, socializing all the time, and having a more exciting job. But I can say I forced myself to reach out more. Said yes to more things. Went to the store instead of having something delivered. Explored new options for keeping fit. Forced my kids to let me be a tourist sometimes when I came to visit. Spiffed up the house. The changes didn't necessarily make it into all my moments, but I knew I was growing. There was so much more variety in my grid. I stopped stagnating.

This is the last few weeks of my first 1440 day cycle. This year has been slower for a variety of reasons so my grid looks more like the early days. I don't know yet if I'm going to try another cycle. But whether I never start another cycle, start again immediately or sometime in the future, I am grateful to Minutiae for shaking me out of a daze and reminding me that moments are for living fully, especially on those Tuesdays.
